Brain Development by Juggling, Part 1

So I have this client, Brain Fitness Strategies. The story of the husband from this husband and wife team is truly incredible. In a nutshell, he never learned how to read in grade school, and made it all the way to college and could not so much as read a restaurant menu without Susan’s (his wife) help. As an adult, Paul Phariss began juggling and performing Rhythmic Movement Training, and in as little as 6 months, began reading on his own with the use of phonics that he had remembered from school long ago. Tulsa Web Design Firm videoed a teaching seminar on October 16, 2010, and from the seminar, I extracted the first part of the video where Paul talks a little bit about how his life was changed completely using the type of brain development techniques that he now teaches today. Check it out below:

Paul and his wife Susan Phariss now travel the country helping people of all ages overcome learning disabilities without the use of drugs. Using Rhythmic Movement Training, juggling, developmental play, and other techniques, they are able to change the behavioral patters of young children and get them on the right track.

That’s a condensed story that really doesn’t do it justice at ALL, so you need to check out their website, and get their book. The purpose of this post is really about me.  About a week or so ago, I emailed Susan and asked her this question:

Susan, I do have a question for you — I am a pretty good juggler already…if I spent 10 minutes a day for like 3 times a week, would it make a difference in the type of work that I do?

Her response to my question was:

Yes, juggling for just a few minutes a day will help you be more creative, make faster decisions, and have more access to more of your brain. Take a juggling break when you need to brainstorm something new and creative. It is excellent for building creativity. Try learning a new juggling trick, or juggling higher, behind the back, etc. Be sure to juggle in from of Braxton–it is good for his mirror neurons!

So, I ordered some juggling bean bags from their website and got them in today. I will be juggling for 10 minutes a day during my breaks at work and will be monitoring my cognitive skills that I use at work, my level of creativity with my design work, and my overall attention-span (which currently needs an upgrade lol). I am excited to see how my mental faculties improve as a result of stimulating my brain through juggling. I’ll keep you posted!
